What is the easiest cheer stunt? ›

The thigh stand is a stunt that almost resembles a pyramid, but is perfect for younger and beginner squads. The stunt requires three people: Two bases and a flyer. A spotter is not usually required, but the coach should decide whether or not one is warranted.

How Old is Too Old to Start Cheerleading? There is no age limit for cheerleading so technically you can start cheering at any age! The minimum age requirement to be a cheerleader for most school's is 6 years old, but the best age to start cheerleading is at least the age of 8.

No partner stunts, pyramids and/or tosses are allowed. If an athlete is ever lifted off of the performing surface by another athlete or athletes, it is considered a “building skill” and is therefore illegal.

Level 0: The Beginner

All stunts at this level are at waist level only and must have a watchful spotter for each flyer. Tosses and cradles are also not allowed at this level. This is to keep cheerleaders focused on building up strong basics and strength first before progressing to more advanced skills!

Just like most varsity sports, cheerleading is physically exhausting. If a cheerleader doesn't have a healthy workout and diet, then that cheerleader's peers and coach won't believe they are at their best. Doing a back bend with legs wide is the easiest — as it gives you the most stability (due to “surface area” for the nerds out there). Once I see an athlete has become competent with the wide leg approach, I switch to a narrow stance back bend with feet together. Eventually this will turn into a limber.

Jump 1: The Toe Touch

The staple cheerleading jump is a toe touch. The jump involves kicking the legs out to the side as far as they will go and snapping them back together. The jump should resemble the middle splits in the air. The key to a toe touch is rotating the hips backward to increase range of motion.
